Black Swans and The Bird Flu

Bird flu, also known as avian influenza is a common virus that is lethal to birds and potentially fatal to humans.

With some birds, like the West Australian Black Swan being more vulnerable to the disease than others, researchers at the University of Western Australia are currently studying why that is and how we can better protect these species.

Associate Professor Parwinder Kaur from UWA’s School of Agriculture and Environment and Director of DNA Zoo Australia spoke with Fiona Bartholomaeus about the research.
