CARAD welcomes visa rights for more than 20,000 refugees left in ‘limbo’

The Centre for Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Detainees (CARAD) has this week welcomed the long-anticipated decision by the Albanese Government to honour their election commitment and allow Permanent Visas to almost 20,000 refugees.

The decision will grant rights to refugees, including social security payments, access to the National Disability Insurance Scheme and higher education as well as providing a pathway for citizenship, after years of being left in a state of political ‘limbo’.

CARAD General Manager Alison Xamon spoke with Jeff Bullen for On The Record about the people affected by this decision.
