Caring For Our Elderly

The current pension age in Australia is 67, with some choosing to retire at this age and others choosing to work well beyond this.

Debates have been had as to when you can access your superannuation, and who should be paying for what and what amount to assist with aged care. Currently 1.2 million people use aged care, with 200,000 using residential care and the other 1 million using home care, ranging from the majority needing basic assistance to a smaller amount needing a much higher level of care.

Jeff Bullen chats with Professor Hal Swerissen of public health about the $25 billion spent on aged care services between 2021-22 and how it’s not enough to improve the level of care our elderly need.
