Carola Akindele-Obe on looking forward to IOTA2027

After enjoying the 2025 edition of Wedge: The Australian Ceramic Trienniale that was held earlier this month in Walyalup/Fremantle, we can now look to the future to the Indian Ocean Craft Triennial’s (IOTA) return in 2027!

Carola Akindele-Obe, founding curator of IOTA and founding partner of Maker&Smith, joined Bec Bowman on Artbeat to reflect on IOTA2024, and to discuss IOTA’s significance to both local and international creatives. Plans are already in motion for the conference’s 2027 return, including the upcoming Curatorium on 4 November 2025 which will be introducing the themes for the next Triennial.

They also chatted about Maker&Smith and the next edition of the Makers Film Festival, for which submissions are currently open until 31 March 2026.
