Crystal from Indie Supergroup Phoebe Rings Walks Us Through Aseurai

Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland collective Phoebe Rings have released their first full-length album, Aseurai, a whimsical infusion of dream-pop sensitivity and city-pop intricacy.

Originally the solo project of vocalist Crystal Choi, the record marks a pretty major shift for the band, featuring songwriting contributions from across Aotereoa/New Zealand. Across ten songs, Phoebe Ring’s storytelling ranges from tongue-in-cheek musings on gentrification to tender autobiographical memories.

Crystal joined Pam on Brekky to talk through the writing, production and engineering of the album across studios and band members’ homes on nearly every Sunday through 2023 and 2024.
