Curtin Research Unveils Mental Health Challenges Faced By WA Farmers
New research hailing from Curtin University is seeking to better understand the mental health and well-being of WA farmers.
Continuing on from a previous study focusing on farmers in the Eastern States, the researched looked at how industrial and community changes have affected those working in the agriculture sector over time. Researchers are currently seeking recruits to take part in this study to better understand the experiences of farmers who are facing these challenges.
On The Record presenter Madeleine Lombardi is joined in the studio with Micaela Riethmuller, one of the Lead Researchers from Curtin University.
Together they discuss what significant changes within the agriculture industry and the community are sighted as having impacted the mental health of farmers, the insights into the mental health of farmers that were gained from the previous study into this topic, including why the Eastern State farmers were highlighted in previous research causing WA farmers to be neglected as a result.
