Cutting through political noise for young Australians this election

According to the AEC, a record 98.2 per cent of eligible Australians or around 18,098,797 people are enrolled to vote in the upcoming federal election.

PLUS the May 3 election will be the first where Gen Z and millennial voters aged under 45 will outnumber baby boomers in every state and territory,

Build A Ballot, a new tool and platform created by charity Project Planet and designed with young voters in mind, goes through a series of questions to help users create their voting plan and a draft ballot, understanding which of their local candidates and parties reflect their own views and preferences.

Co-creators Lizzie Hedding and Tegan Lerm want to cut through slogans and misinformation and support young Australians getting informed before they head to the polls.

The questions zone in on issues most relevant to Australia’s young people and Lizzie Hedding says this is what sets the platform apart from existing tools like ABC’s Vote Compass.

Pam Boland caught up with Lizzie Hedding to talk Build A Ballot, misinformation, young voters and ‘new’ media’s place in the upcoming Federal Election.
