Deborah McKendrick explores Icons from Suburbia in new exhibition

After her first solo exhibition in 2023 (covered here on RTRFM), Deborah McKendrick is exhibiting her new portrait series, Icons from Suburbia.

The exhibition, being held at St John’s Church in Fremantle from 1-11 May, explores the relationship between art and spiritual religion, celebrating the cultured and cosmopolitan people that exist, often quietly, within our suburban communities.

Deborah McKendrick returns to Artbeat to chat with Bec Bowman about the exhibition, finding themes in creative works, exploring religious iconography, and the uniquely collaborative process of creating portraits of human subjects.
