Deepfakes in Docos striking Legal Concern

Legal technology expert, Mitchell Adams, spoke On the Record with Jeff about the use of artificial intelligence in Roadrunner: A film about Anthony Bourdain.

Filmmaker Morgan Neville used a deepfake of Anthony Bourdain’s voice, created from 10 hours of Bourdain’s original recorded speech.

This struck an unpleasant nerve among critics, many of whom were unaware of the deepfake use when first watching the film.

Mitchell Adams says that the use of AI for deepfake voice can be a legal minefield for film and television producers to navigate and talked with Jeff in more detail about current attempts from film industry unions to regulate the reanimation of actors voices.
