Desert Fireball Network finds meteorite fragments in WA

Curtin University’s Desert Fireball Network (DFN) is an interdisciplinary research group established in 2005 that studies meteorites, fireballs, and their pre-Earth orbits. Through their research, they have located over a dozen meteorite fragments across the world.

Recently, the DFN found fragments from the meteorite that lit up our skies on Mother’s Day earlier this year, approximately 500km southeast of Perth.

The group’s director Dr Ellie Sansom joined Fiona Bartholomaeus On The Record to discuss the process of locating the meteorite, what meteorite fragments can teach us about our solar system, and the 2025 Meteoroids Conference held earlier this month in Perth.
