Stage Changers documentary chronicles struggling artists

Director Ella Wright joins Bec Bowman on Artbeat to discuss her directorial debut Stage Changers.

Filmed over eight years, Stage Changers follows the young, brilliant Perth theatre company, The Last Great Hunt, from near obscurity to international success.

The film explores their highly unorthodox creative process, full of play and collaboration, as they work together to create their first large-scale festival work – Lé Nør – which was presented as part of the Perth Festival in 2018.

It coincides with the return of Perth Festival and the ongoing struggle of the survival of the arts industry, even before the start of the global coronavirus pandemic.
