Everyday social media posts help find new and missing plant species

Australia is in the top 10 most biodiverse countries in the world, and a large amount of it is concentrated right here in the south-west corner of the country.

Thilo Kruegar is a Curtin University PhD student who has been leading a team that’s using social media to find and identify new species living in Western Australia. The team have identified six new and rediscovered species so far.

Thilo joined Tom Reynolds for On The Record to discuss the native carnivorous plants of WA and how they were rediscovered.
