Exploring Body, Space and the Imagination with RARE BIRD ensemble
Theatre artists, Jack Martin and Jeremy James, return to talk with Bec Bowman on Artbeat about their latest training initiative and the plans that lie ahead for RARE BIRD ensemble, following their last conversation about interdisciplinary training and the value of embracing risk and vulnerability in the creative process.
Building on a spirit of collective enquiry and exchange, RARE BIRD ensemble is offering another unique training opportunity for actors, performers, directors and dancers based on the work and teachings of Lecoq, Mnouchkine and Complicite. James will lead a 5-day workshop – Body, Space and the Imagination – using the neutral mask to reveal how the body, breath, space and audience work together to create meaning. The training shows how each movement is powerfully expressive. It refines the performer’s imaginative, technical and expressive skills to develop a more conscious, clear and effective approach to storytelling.
WAAPA graduates, Martin and Shaun Johnston join James, an internationally acclaimed theatre artist and teacher, to establish RARE BIRD ensemble. They seek to develop a shared creative language with a diversity of local artists to support a series of collaborative investigations – creating visually rich and tightly choreographed ensemble works in 2023.
