Geraldton hosts Stargirls+ STEM Camp and Sidewalk Astronomy

This week, the regional WA town of Geraldton is in the spotlight for its events aiming to encourage young people, particularly girls and underrepresented genders, to get involved in science, technology, engineering and mathematics – commonly known as STEM.

A free STEM and Stargirls camp in Geraldton is giving high school students from across the midwest the chance to meet with some local and Perth-based women working in STEM. Students will be able to learn about their careers in fields such as astronomy, astrophysics, engineering, and data science.

Also this week is Sidewalk Astronomy, where you can get a free guided tour of the galaxy from the comfort of the Geraldton foreshore, complete with big telescopes!

Astrophysicist Tim Young from the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research discusses these events On The Record with Madeleine Caffieri.
