Google’s New AI Assistant with Alex Jenkins

New developments in AI technology are being released by Google in their new Google Assistant, an update from the previous Bard version to the Gemini model.

Google’s Bard AI used a basic technology that has since been outdated by models like ChatGPT. Gemini is an advanced step in AI technology, which Google claims can understand images, audio, and advanced coding.

Alex Jenkins, director of WA Data Science Innovation Hub at Curtin University, discusses how Gemini looks to be an AI that acts as a “personal agent for us” that could perform tasks such as calling a bank or filling a form.

Concerns have been raised on the reliability of AI, which is often cited as providing incorrect and even harmful information. Alex Jenkins chatted with Fiona Bartholomaeus to answer questions on the risks of data breaches, copyright concerns, as well as what we can expect from Gemini.
