Happy Happy, Joy Joy!

Cartoons don’t come much more influential, iconic, grotesque and just plain weird than The Ren & Stimpy Show.

Premiering in 1991, rapidly taking over the world before fizzling out after just 5 seasons, Ren & Stimpy developed a cult following and inspired and influenced everything from Beavis and Butt-Head getting the green light (based on the success of Ren & Stimpy), right through to being a very clear and direct influence on the iconic SpongeBob SquarePants.

Filmmakers Ron Cicero & Kimo Easterwood have put the show, it’s origins and creation, and legacy under the microscope with their new documentary, Happy Happy Joy Joy: The Ren & Stimpy Story.

RTR’s Will Backler caught up with Cicero & Easterwood to hear all about the film, including having it the film completed by 2018 when the disturbing news about Ren & Stimpy creator John Kricfalusi’s abuse allegations surfacing, and started off asking if the pair were historically big Ren and Stimpy fans.
