IN.RESPONSE to voice, to exchange and to dance!

Co3 Contemporary Dance is an artistic house based in Boorloo, on the land of the Whadjuk Nyoongar people. Their latest production, IN.RESPONSE showcases First Nations youth from Burrb Wanggarraju Nurlu dance company and youth from Girrawheen Senior High School.

“Throughout Term 2, these youth participated in Co3’s in-school dance residency and workshop program which involved an immersive virtual reality arts experience created by Artistic Director, Raewyn Hill. CONNECT 2024: THE INSIDE engages with themes of belonging and displacement and explores how youth consider and respond to their built and natural environments. This creative dance response in Boorloo brings our young people together from across Western Australia in a safe and inclusive environment - to voice, to exchange and to dance!”

The youth dancers of Burrb Wanggarraju Nurlu from Rubibi (Broome) will be performing a devised response titled, ‘Retaliate’.

Whereas, students from Girrawheen Senior High School in Boorloo (Perth) will be presenting ‘The Return’.

After retiring from Bangarra Dance Company in 2022, with her 15+ years of dance expertise Tara Gower created Burrb Wanggarraju Nurlu to mentor the future generation.

Maxxi May took the opportunity to catch up and chat with the Burrb Wanggarraju Nurlu Artistic DirectorTara Gower on Artbeat.

Supported by Act Belong Commit, the event will be hosted by the State Theatre, Studio Underground on July, 18.
