It all began with Lake Pedder: Australian Climate Politics

While tonight’s federal budget has been grabbing news headlines, this month also marks another major event in Australian politics.

Fifty years ago on the 23rd of March 1972, the United Tasmania Group was founded in Hobart – creating the world’s very first environmental party.

Driven by the urge to save Lake Pedder the UTG was the forerunner to the Australian Greens and inspired the creation of Green parties around the world.

Greens Senate candidate for Tasmania Tabatha Badger joined Tom Reynolds during On The Record to chat about the history of the the UTG, and the Lake Pedder campaign.
