James Cameron in WA for Challenging The Deep

James Cameron is a filmmaker known for record-breaking box office hits like Avatar, Titanic, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Aliens and The Terminator. Alongside Cameron’s innovations into cinematic storytelling and special effects, he is also known for his achievements as an oceanographer: he has led eight major deep-sea expeditions and many submersible dives, setting world firsts, including the first exploration of the interior of the wreck of RMS Titanic, the first seafloor-to-surface live broadcast and the first solo visit to the Mariana Trench.

Between March 23rd and July 28th this year, the WA Maritime Museum is hosting the immersive exhibition James Cameron – Challenging The Deep, which celebrates the films he has made concerning the sea such as The Abyss, Titanic and Avatar, and the technological achievements he has made in deep-ocean science. Visitors are taken on a journey from his childhood love of science and art through some of his most noted films to his achievements in the science and technology of undersea exploration.

To promote the exhibition, James Cameron was interviewed at the Fremantle Passenger Terminal in a sold-out audience event. After the public interview, Cameron provided further answers to a smaller room of media people, which included Tristan Fidler from RTRFM’s Movie Squad who asked the first question to the visiting filmmaker, alongside further questions from other members of the WA press.
