Kankawa Nagarra

Kankawa Nagarra, hailing from the East Kimberly is a singer, songwriter and story teller. She sings Wirlmarni and Kimberley Creole.

Her most recent album Wirlmarni won the Australian Music Prize at the end of 2024. Wilmarni, in English means disappearing and tells the story of her culture and fellow elders who over time have slowly disappeared in both language and story telling.

Jim and Nick from Moordijt Mag spoke with Kankawa Nagarra about her songs and her stories ahead of her upcoming gigs at Clancy’s Fremantle, April 10th and RTRFM’s In The Pines, April 13th.
