Kankawa Nagarra yarns with Moorditj Mag

Kankawa Nagarra, hailing from the East Kimberly is a singer, songwriter and storyteller. She sings Wirlmarni and Kimberley Creole.

Her most recent album Wirlmarni won the Australian Music Prize at the end of 2024. Wilmarni, meaning disappearing, tells the story of her culture and fellow elders who over time have slowly disappeared in both language and storytelling.

Jim and Nick from Moorditj Mag spoke with Kankawa Nagarra about her songs and her stories ahead of her upcoming gigs at Clancy’s Fish Pub in Fremantle, April 10th and RTRFM’s In The Pines, April 13th.
