Kitty Green’s thrilling return to Oz
Australian filmmaker Kitty Green, who’s known for her American made films such as The Assistant and Casting JonBenét, returns with the Australia set, psychological thriller, The Royal Hotel.
The film follows Hannah and Liv, two American tourists played by Julia Garner and Jessica Henwick who are eager for adventure while on a working-holiday through Australia. With few options available to them, they take jobs working at the local pub of an isolated outback mining town. With unfamiliar surroundings and a sea of heavy drinking and wild patrons, the two travelers feel they may have got more than they bargained for. As their time in the town goes on, a growing threat becomes more apparent when unwanted attention from certain men becomes overwhelming. With nowhere to go the two women’s vulnerability is on full display and they have no way of knowing who to trust.
RTRFM’s Will Yagmich spoke with director Kitty Green, to discuss The Royal Hotel ahead of its national release.
