Launch of the Binar-1 Satellite

On Sunday the 29th August we saw history being made when the Space X Dragon Spacecraft left Earth carrying a satellite made by local researchers.

The Binar-1 Satellite was safely secured inside the rocket when it left Earth to travel to the the International Space Station, where it will become the first WA made spacecraft to be launched into orbit from the ISS.

Watching the takeoff live from Yagan Square was Professor Phil Bland, Director of the Space Science and Technology Centre.

He caught up with Fiona Bartholomaeus, On The Record, and discussed the exciting launch, what it means for the future of space technology and what the Binar-1 Satellite will be doing while it’s in space.
