Left Hand of Darkness

In the mid-1980s, Ian Lilburne became involved in the early days of the Perth Fringe, eventually turning his talents towards festival organisation and a career in the arts.

After retiring from the events world, he’s returned to his first love, songwriting, drawing on more than 50 years of playing guitar and a lifelong passion for poetry.

His latest album, Left Hand of Darkness, is a collaboration with gypsy-jazz violinist Emily Gelineau. Conceived during the suspended time of COVID, this collection of 13 songs and instrumentals explores space, time and the human condition, blending folk, jazz and classical influences with a dash of wry humour.

Ian launches the album at The Ellington Jazz Club on 26 October, joined by Emily, soprano Sam Ray and bassist Lucy Browning.

Danae Gibson chats with singer-songwriter Ian Lilburne.
