Leon Holmes is Regional Arts WA’s Artist of The Month for September.

The Regional Arts WA’s Artist of The Month is a program helping to recognise artists by sharing their work to a wider audience.

Globally known for his mastery of Plein Air oil painting capturing the essence of light and nature, Leon Holmes is an award-winning Australian artist based in Mandjoogoordap.

Inspired by his experience from international painting events (Maui Plein Air Invitational’ in Hawaii, ‘Forgotten Coast en Plein Air’ in Florida and ‘Art in the Open’ in Irleand), Leon has started a similar event in Mandjoogoordap (Mandurah) called ‘Plein Air Down Under’.

Plein Air Down Under features a week of outdoor and evening paint-outs, over $12,000 in awards and prizes, workshops, youth involvement and two art exhibitions with over 200 artists in participation. Leon will be running masterclasses, paints and demonstrations alongside artists, renowned artists Lori Putnam and Tony Robinson.

Plein Air Down Under is held on September, 17-24 across the Peel region.
