Maatakitj on his new single Bindari

Maatakitj, aka Clint Bracknell, is a music-maker and language revivalist with a passion for connecting linguistics to song, culture and landscapes.

Originally from the south coast Noongar region of WA, he has performed and written music for the stage and screen, co-translating a full-length Shakespearean work for Perth Festival, feature film dubbing entirely in Noongar language, performed with Kronos Quartet and Angelique Kidjo and many more… AND he has a PhD in Noongar Language.

Maatakitj, Dr Clint Bracknell, joins Breakfast’s Pam Boland to chat about his new single, Bindari.

A classical string piece, complemented by the vocals of Maatakitj in his mother tongue, Noongar, characterizing Bindari, a thunderstorm, in three distinct parts – wild winds and thunder, then light rains moving from west to east, and finally a kangaroo seeking refuge underneath a small tree. The single moves between tones of power and strength, to soft and provocative, to sharp and erratic.
