Mungangga Garlagula – Mark Atkins Erkki Veltheim

Mungangga Garlagula (Wajarri, meaning “yarning by the fire”) is a new theatrical production presented by TURA, and co-created by Yamatji musician/performer Mark Atkins and Finnish-Australian composer/performer Erkki Veltheim.

Atkins performs live as a storyteller in this program, imagined as a gathering around a campfire, with Veltheim providing live accompaniment alongside a recorded score. The result is a unique sound-scape in which the boundaries between day and night, memory and myth, and past and future are ever-shifting.

Mark Atkins and Erkki Veltheim joined Danae Gibson on Artbeat to discuss their prolific careers as artists and collaborators, and the people and experiences Atkins drew from for the stories featured in this project.

Mungangga Garlagula is performing on Monday 11 August at 7:30pm at the Heath Ledger Theatre. Tickets are available here.
