New Ancient Kangaroo Species

Two new species of ancient Kangaroos have been named after being discovered from 18 million year old fossils found in the Riversleigh World Heritage Area in Queensland.

The fossils revealed these new species were of similar size to a Quokka and showed the ability to eat leaves; giving insight into how exactly Kangaroos evolved into their more familiar, contemporary form.

Fiona Bartholomaeus spoke with Dr. Kenny Travouillon, Curator of Mammalogy at The Western Australia Museum.
