On the Record: Robert Wood and Smoked Meat Guy, the key swing voter in 2022.

Dr Robert Wood from the Centre for Stories joins Jeff Bullen to talk about social phenomena and swing voters in the upcoming federal election.

He’s coined ‘smoked meat guy’  as being the key swing voter for 2022: the guy who likes to barbecue in a in a new way, with coals and flavoured wood, a special barbecue and a whole lot more effort; the guy who sits on the fence on social issues, who is a “do-er” and who wants to see things getting done.

Like ‘jetski guy’ and ‘soccer mum’, ‘smoked meat guy’ is a character that represents a particular group of voters, who Dr Wood believes are likely to switch up their voting preferences this election in favour of the Labor party.
