Outdoor Greek Theatre Comes to Perth

Sophocles’ Oedipus the King is one of the great tragedies of ancient Greek theatre — a story about fate, power, family and the choices we make.

Now, two and a half thousand years after it was first performed in Athens, the play is coming to Kings Park in a contemporary English translation.

Greek Theatre Now will stage the production at the Saw Avenue Amphitheatre from 24 to 28 September, including special school performances. Michael J Smith is the company’s founder and artistic director, and he has adapted the script from the acclaimed translation by British scholar Richard Claverhouse Jebb.
