Pacific Nation Tuvalu announces plan to enter the Metaverse

The Pacific island nation of Tuvalu recently announced that due to rising sea levels and the threat to their land, they have developed a worst-case-scenario plan that involves the Metaverse.

Located in the South Pacific Ocean, Tuvalu announced at the COP27 summit that they plan to create a digital replica of their island in the Metaverse so that their unique environment and culture can be preserved.

Senior lecturer in Interactive Design at the Queensland University of Technology, Dr Nick Kelly, joined Fiona Bartholomaeus for On The Record to discuss what this plan means for the future of technology.
