Perth Festival Artistic Director Iain Grandage takes over Artbeat on RTRFM: Richard Mills
Perth Festival Artistic Director Iain Grandage and Richard Mills joined Artbeat’s Bec Bowman to talk about the 2023 festival, including Music of the Spheres, a sumptuous feast of fine music which celebrates the heavens and sings to the stars above in a performance book ended by new works about our relationship with the cosmos.
Emma Donovan sings a new song of ancient stories as Music of the Spheres weaves together music from across the centuries; glorious renaissance motets and exquisite arias from Handel, Mahler and Strauss prepare the scene for a centrepiece world premiere of a new operatic work Glimpses & Dialogues from ‘Galileo’ written by long time WA Opera director, and current artistic director of Victorian Opera, Richard Mills (Batavia, Song of the Nightingale).
Donovan and Mills are joined by the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Samantha Clarke, Shanul Sharma, Samuel Dundas and a choir of Angels and Demons in a concert that encapsulates the expanse of human wonder at the universe around us.
The Perth Festival 2023 theme is Djinda (Stars).
