PREMIERE: “Time and Place” by Saskia Willinge & Sabine Vogel for Audible Edge
Audible Edge Festival of Sound is a music festival of alternative forms of music making and experimental sound.
Running since 2017, the festival works with local musicians and sound artists over multiple months and for the first time this year the program will run from April to December.
The crowdfunded festival is taking place over multiple galleries, venues and spaces across the city.
The first event in the eight month long program is the radio debut of “Time and Place” by Saskia Willinge & Sabine Vogel.
“Time and Place” is an improvised flute duet recorded outdoors, simultaneously, from opposite ends of the world. With Sabine playing at 10.30am from a pond in Paretz, and Saskia from Blackwall Reach at 6.30pm, both flautists improvised in response to the environment around them, and the environment the other was situated in. Guided by graphic scores in the form of detailed photos of each location, they considered not only where they were, but the distance and binaries between them; day, night, Spring, Autumn, mentor, mentee. The result is a duet that connects the two places and players through space, time and sound.
