Professor Asha Rao discusses online scams and the Scams Prevention Framework

Cybersecurity expert Professor Asha Rao from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology talks with Fiona Bartholomaeus about the prevalence of online scams in Australia, and the Federal Government’s attempt to address this issue.

Professor Rao discusses the effects of online scams on Australians, covering the most commons types – and victims – of scams. She also explains the Federal Government’s development of a Scams Prevention Framework – drafted legislation that aims to improve accountability for large organisations, such as banks, telecommunications companies, and social media platforms.

The Scams Prevention Framework is currently open for public consultation until the 4th of October. Find more information on submitting feedback here.
