Recitals release their much awaited debut record Orbit I
New Zealand band Recitals were formed in December 2019 as the brain-child of musician Xanthe Rook, who wanted to facilitate a safe and explorative space for women and queer/LGBTQI+. The band would meet at Wellington’s Pyramid Club every Sunday to write and practice.
These sessions resulted in their debut, genre-defying album Orbit 1, released via Flying Nun Records on August 26 after being written and recorded between December 2019 and November 2021 in studios, various bedrooms and houses.
In these places, the band indulged in feelings of (and towards); love, mandated self-reflection, climate change, feminist theology, interconnectivity, projection and erotic fantasy.
RTRFM’s Rhian Todhunter calls across the Tasman and spoke with Christian Dimick and Sam Curtiss, two of the seven members of Recitals. They started by talking about how they’re feeling now that the record has been out for a few weeks—tune in below!
