Return of 2009 play HOODS reimagining Hansel and Gretel

2009 play HOODS, that serves as a contemporary retelling of “Hansel and Gretel”, explores powerful themes of marginalized youth, poverty, and resilience that remain profoundly relevant today. Its original production company, Barking Gecko Arts, have brought the play back for one public performance on 23 May.

Director Andrea Gibbs and current Artistic Director Sam Longley are coming full circle, having both performed in Barking Gecko’s original 2009 production.

Andrea Gibbs joined Bec Bowman on Artbeat to discuss returning to the play after 16 years, the play’s perspective reflecting its young protagonists, and its continued thematic relevance.
