Rewind on RTRFM – 3 September 2021
This week’s Rewind highlights three stories unfolding in Western Australia
Meri Fatin speaks to author Paul Cleary about the 15-year struggle and ultimate triumph of the Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation against Andrew Forrest’s mining company. Paul’s new book Title Fight details the story both he and Meri have followed over the years.
Next, Fiona Bartholomaeus hears from Curtin University’s Phil Bland about his department’s incredible new achievement – building the first WA satellite to be launched from the International Space Station. Professor Bland was able to watch the SpaceX shuttle carrying the satellite from Yagan Square, and had loads to say about the experience.
Finally, Jeff Bullen heard from ADSA CEO Melita Markey about an alarming new trend: tourists are exposing themselves to the highly toxic blue asbestos fibres at Wittenoom’s former townsite. Melita explained how the Asbestos Disease Society of Australia is trying to combat misinformation.
