Rewind on RTRFM – 8 October 2021
This week, Rewind digs deep into some of the hot-button issues creeping up this summer – we’re talking bushfire season, the Burrup Peninsula, and the human cost of botched border reopenings.
First up, it’s On the Record’s Jeff Bullen in robust conversation with Greg Mullins – climate activist, bushfire expert, and former Commissioner of Fire and Rescue for NSW.
Greg’s new book Firestorm talks about the failure of the Federal Government to take warnings about the 2019-2020 Black Summer seriously – and why we’re in for much worse if we don’t get our act together on climate change.
Next, Maddie Lombardi chats with disability rights expert Fran Collins, author of Workplace Culture and the NDIS.
Fran joined On the Record to discuss how our obsession with reopening the borders at specific percentage rates of vaccinations is putting enormous pressure on disabled people. State and Federal Governments have failed to make vaccinations accessible to a huge subsection of the Australian population – and who are particularly vulnerable to COVID-19.
Finally, Tim Fairbanks and Emma Lucia caught up with three members of Selfless Orchestra, an audio-visual, ecologically-engaged collection of post-rock improvisers. They have a chat about their approach to music-making and their current mission – to spread the word about Woodside’s Scarborough Gas Hub project, which threatens to be the biggest polluter in Australia to date.
