RTRFM Feature: F.S. Blumm and Nils Frahm delve into dub on their latest record 2X1=4

German musicians F.S. Blumm and Nils Frahm have released their fourth collaborative album, 2X1=4 on Leiter, the new label formed by Frahm and his manager, Felix Grimm.

The seven-track album finds the duo pivot to explore a dub influenced universe. While definitely not a reggae release 2X1=4 hones in on techniques, ideas and concepts that that underpin dub reggae. Spacious, slowed down electronica echoes throughout – otherworldly percussion is anchored to Earth by thick, winding bass lines.

RTRFM’s Matt Ferret  jumped on Zoom to chat with F.S. Blumm to chat about the record, Nils Frahm’s studio at the Funkhaus and life in general. The conversation started with Matt asking Blumm about one of the highlights of his career – working with late Lee “Scratch” Perry.
