RTRFM’s Most Played Tracks of 2020!
We’ve finally crunched the numbers and checked them twice: RTRFM’s most played tracks of 2020 are here!
The #1 song couldn’t be more ‘2020’, or more ‘WA’: Dennis Cometti’s (pictured) WAXIT.
The tune was played 52 times throughout the course of 2020, meaning listeners heard the word “WAXIT” 312 times. (Listeners also heard that “Moondyne Joe could bash Ned Kelly” a total of 104 times.)
Approximately 70,000 tracks were played on RTRFM in 2020, with more than 300 volunteer presenters curating their own playlists. Dive Wreck by gothic Perth outfit Nerve Quakes was a close #2, with 49 spins throughout 2020, followed by fellow sandgropers Grievous Bodily Calm (Sync Step) at #3 and Your Girl Pho (Surrender) at #4.
As always, local artists featured heavily on the list, with 72 per cent of the top 101 played tracks being from WA. That includes MissGenius, a Maduwongga and Noongar woman who scored two tunes in the Top 10 (Wild Things and I Don’t Wanna Be), as well as New Nausea, with Bright Bloody Blue at #9, and Carla Geneve, whose song The Right Reasons closed off the Top 10.
Female artists were once again dominant, with 54 per cent of the top 101 played coming from female artists and female-fronted bands.
Fifteen per cent of those who made the list were international, with interstate artists making up the remaining 13 per cent.
Thundercat’s Dragonball Durag was the top played track from an international artist at #5, while Melbourne punks Cable Ties were the top placed interstate act, with their tune Sandcastles coming in at #6.
