Shelter WA’s Kath Snell

Today, August 4th marks the beginning of Homelessness week 2025.

There are more than 100 000 people who identify as homeless in Australia and about ten-thousand across WA without a shelter or sleeping rough. Homelessness Week is a national annual event, occurring through the first week of August. And in 2025 Shelter WA has chosen the theme Homelessness Prevention.

During this week, homelessness services and groups educate the community, and advocate for change through national and local events and media activities. On The Record’s Atikah Hurley spoke with Shelter WA’s CEO Kath Snell about the organisation, the importance of homelessness week and what we can do to contribute to a positive change.
