‘Space Creep’ And How It Influences Sustainable Housing

The way we live in our homes, our habits and daily routines are growing and changing with our housing. The way we want to live shapes the size of our homes.

RMIT lead research found that in the 1950s the average home measured one hundred square metres, while in 2020 the average home came to two hundred and thirty six square metres. This dramatic increase is being attributed to what’s called ‘Space Creep’ where our lifestyles are becoming more centred around the home.
