Space Sustainability Becoming Top Priority For Humanity

When we explore the stars and planets, we often have to leave things behind as there isn’t a way to get it back to Earth. This wastes a lot of material and unfortunately adds to the ever-increasing amount of space debris.

So how can we be more sustainable when it comes to space and space research, along with being able to meet the current needs of society without compromising the needs of future generations?

On The Record presenter Fiona Bartholomaeus took the opportunity to catch up and chat with Associate Professor Boris Eisenbart, who is the primary Research Director of the Industry 4.0 Test Lab based at Swinburne University.

Together they discuss the matters surrounding background development of sustainable materials for space research and exploration, including how to mitigate operational usage of single-usage spacecraft’s, and why is it important that when discussing recycling we don’t focus solely on Earth.
