Supporting the development of ‘Hybrid Writers’ in the digital age

Research from Edith Cowan University has uncovered the importance of teaching handwriting in the first years of schooling and to continue to support this skill throughout the education journey.

Though most students are digital natives, growing up with technology around them, the studies show that primary aged students produce higher quality writing using a pen(cil) and paper than when using a keyboard.

ECU School of Education senior lecturer Dr Anabela Malpique spoke with Atikah Hurley for On The Record about the driving force behind the study on handwriting and why it’s so important
