The Lester Prize wants art from everyone in 2025

Entries are now open for the 2025 Lester Prize Main Awards, one of Australia’s most lucrative art competitions.

The 2024 season enjoyed record-breaking visitor numbers to the exhibition, held for the first time at WA Museum Boola Bardip. Distinguished by its placement of the artist and community proudly front-and-centre, The Lester Prize drives the advancement of the artists as opposed to a focus on those sitting for portraits.

In addition to its Main Awards, The Lester Prize also runs a Youth Awards category, with entries now open until Wednesday, March 5. The Youth Awards are open to all high school students across Australia to submit portrait artworks, providing a platform for young creatives to showcase their artistic talents and share their perspectives with the community.

Joining Breakfast’s Pam Boland is Executive Director, Shannon Yujnovich to talk all about who can submit work and what the Lester prize looks for from entrants.
