The Petticoat Parade: Madam Monnier and the Roe Street Brothels

One hundred years ago, the Petticoat Parade of Perth was part of the so-called Red Light District where many women paraded in their petticoats on the verandas of Roe Street. The women were kept from  public view and were secret keepers themselves in the seamier side of town.

Author and researcher Leigh Straw chats to Danae Gibson about the stigma of sex work, business, crime and women in WA ‘s 20th century colonial history.
