UK band Mamas Gun Mamas Gun are keeping soul alive

Named after the Erykah Badu album, UK-based soul titans Mamas Gun have gone on to craft their own distinctly contemporary take on soul and funk music while paying homage to the rich and warm sounds and atmosphere of the genre’s pioneers and their contemporaries.

Their forthcoming album Cure The Jones is a lush, nuanced and expansively contemporary meditation on a world turned upside down, embedded in the classic soul tradition of Bill Withers and Marvin Gaye. The lead single, ‘Party For One / Looking For Moses’, incorporates low slung  low-slung bass lines that meld with dreamy vocals, lush orchestration and psychedelic effects to deliver a healing balm to modern hardships.

RTRFM’s Emma Lucia hopped on Zoom to chat with Chris and Dave from the band about their new tunes, the universality of soul music, remote jam sessions and more.
