Understorey: “We, The Peoples”

Wednesday 25th October / presented by Elizabeth PO’ Adrian Glamorgan

The United Nations Charter begins with: “We, the peoples.” António Guterres, Secretary-General of the UN says we have the tools and wealth to meet difficult global challenges, like nuclear weapons.  All we need is the will.

Understorey speaks with two key Australian figures in the debate about banning weapons of mass destruction – Gareth Evans, former Labor Foreign Minister. and Ramesh Thakur, currently head of the Centre for Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament at the Australian National University. Both are co-authors of the “responsibility to protect” doctrine, and here put their minds to Australia’s responsibilities to end nuclear weapons.
