Perth has lost a legend as ‘WA’s First Lady of Jazz’, Helen Matthews has passed away.

Helen Matthews is one of Western Australia’s greatest jazz vocalists with her career spanning over half a century.

Helen was no stranger to any having performed for the Queen and the Pope, along with presenting for ABC and RTRFM very own ‘Saturday Jazz’ over the years.

After working with Perth Jazz Society and serving as the Director of Fremantle Jazz Festival, Helen was officially inducted to WAM’s Hall of Fame in 2015 for her continued efforts in nurturing, teaching and mentoring young local artists, she was made a State Cultural Treasure in 2022.

Helen’s impact on Boorloo’s Jazz scene is beyond compare, giving way to a legacy of inspiration for generations to come.
