Violence escalating, human rights decreasing: What the Myanmar conflict means for Australia

Myanmar, formally known as Burma, has been synonymous with military dictatorship, human rights abuses, and ethnic violence; most infamously culminating in the genocide of country’s Muslim minority by the military.

Despite repeatedly condemning the military government of Myanmar, the Australian Government has spent more than $2.5 million on renting rooms at luxury hotels and resorts linked to the Myanmar military.

Curtin University Associate Professor and expert at the school of International Business and Human Rights Tway Tway Thane, joined Tom Reynolds for On The Record to give us the latest on the situation.
